Electrification around the World

Numerous countries have implemented electrification as part of their commuter rail systems. We invite you to view examples of technologies in use elsewhere around the world, which can be seen below. New examples will be posted regularly throughout the study process.

Technology Case Study #1:
USA – Northend Electrification System

Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor operations are almost completely electrified.  Electric power is used to run Amtrak’s Northeast Regional and Acela trains between Washington, New York and Boston.

System Northend Electrification Amtrak High Speed Rail
