Central Corridor Bridges
The Central Corridor Bridges work package involves widening four railway
bridges in the central portion of the Georgetown South corridor:
Black Creek/Black Creek Drive,
Eglinton Avenue and Ray Avenue.
Updates
- April 30 – This month, we completed the widening of one pier and prepared the two abutments with shoring to protect the tracks while we excavate. A second shrouded pile driver is on site to start work on widening one of the abutments. The shrouds were built for this project to reduce noise levels. Noise and vibration monitors are set up along the project area and results are posted online every week. Almost all of the H-piles are expected to be installed by the end of the summer.
- April 13 – We are widening six piers and two abutments to hold
additional tracks for expanded GO Transit service. A second shrouded impact
hammer will start operating later in April. Regular construction hours now
include Saturday work between 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. Weekend hours are necessary
because some of the work must be done when trains are not operating.

Black Creek/Black Creek Drive
Project Schedule
- Design complete: Spring 2011
- Construction start: Fall 2011
- Construction complete: 2013
What we are doing
- Widening the bridges over Black Creek and Black Creek Drive to
accomodate three additional sets of tracks
- These new tracks are required to expand GO Transit service and the
new Air Rail Link service
How this will affect you
- Lane restrictions during construction (please check the update section
for current restrictions)
- This project requires the installation of piles and shoring to create
the foundation to support the bridges. Piles are necessary to reach deep
into the ground to find soil conditions capable of supporting extra
weight from the additional tracks. Installation methods will include
shrouded impact hammer and augering. Nearby residents can expect to hear
noise and feel vibration during installation. The shrouds will help
reduce the noise.
Noise and Vibration
Noise and vibration monitors have been set up along the Black Creek/Black
Creek Drive project area to monitor any noise and vibration generated by the
construction. This data will be posted on a weekly basis.
The following graph displays 1-hour averaged noise levels measured in
decibels (dbA).

Vibration
No elevated vibration levels were recorded during this construction
period.
