East Corridor Bridges

The East Corridor Bridges work package involves widening five railway bridges in the eastern portion of the Georgetown South corridor: Queen Street West, Brock Avenue, Lansdowne Avenue, Bloor Street West and Dupont Street. All of the bridge widenings have been completed.

Queen Street West

The Queen Street West bridge is currently constructed to carry six tracks. As part of the GTS Project, the bridge will be widened to the north by approximately 17 metres to accommodate two additional tracks. The work consists of modified cast-in-place abutments and the installation of new spans.

Project Schedule

  • Construction start: January 2011
  • Span Installation: November 26-28, 2011, and December 3-5, 2011
  • Construction complete: December 2011

What we are doing

  • Widening the bridge to the north

How this will affect you

  • Some partial and full road closures during construction
    • Full closures limited to nights and weekends
  • This is routine construction work, with regular construction noise from trucks, cranes, construction equipment and little to no vibration impact anticipated
  • Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times, on one or the other side of the street

Noise and Vibration

  • There will be some noise and vibration due to the construction, but we will use construction methods to minimize these impacts
  • Noise and vibration will be monitored and reported during construction
