Weston Tunnel
The GO rail corridor will be lowered from Lawrence Avenue to Weston Road,
with a covered portion between King Street and Church Street. Because the rail
corridor will not yet have descended low enough to keep the road level, John
Street will be closed to vehicular traffic; a pedestrian bridge will be built
over the GO tracks to keep John Street open to pedestrians. The corridor will
ascend north of Church Street, returning to ground level before the Weston Road
bridge.
The Tunnel Cover, between King Street and Church Street, will be at the same
grade as the St. John the Evangelist Church and School property lines. With
public access from Church or King Street, the tunnel cover is being designed to
accommodate a green space and/or recreational public use to be maintained by a
third party, such as the City of Toronto or the Toronto Catholic District School
Board.
Updates
- April 30 – On King Street, near George Street, work continues
to install an upgraded water main. King Street has been reduced to one lane
of traffic westbound to Weston Road from Rosemount Avenue. These
restrictions are expected to remain in place through May. Further lane
restrictions and closures of King Street will be required in the future,
including a closure of the intersection of King Street and Rosemount Avenue.
This is required to install a pipe for the new water main.
Work on Rosemount Avenue has begun between Church and King Streets to
upgrade the existing storm sewer. This stretch of Rosemount Avenue will be
open to local traffic only. Access to driveways will be maintained
throughout the work. North of Church Street, construction of the CP Rail
retaining wall is expected to continue until the summer. Hoarding is
currently being installed on the west side of the rail corridor.
- April 20 – CP will be removing and replacing the track panels
in the rail crossing at John Street. John Street will be closed at the
tracks on Tuesday, April 24 from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. For
safety reasons, pedestrians will not be able to cross the corridor during
these times.

What we are doing
- GO rail corridor will be lowered from Lawrence Avenue to Weston Road,
with a covered portion between King Street and Church Street
- John Street will be closed to vehicular traffic
- a pedestrian bridge will be built over the GO tracks to keep John

- Temporary road closures of Church Street and King Street in 2012 or
2013 during tunnel construction
- Closures will impact only one road at a time
- Working with property owners for temporary easements to gain
construction access
Noise and Vibration
Noise and vibration monitors have been set up along the Weston Tunnel
project area to monitor any noise and vibration generated by the
construction. This data will be posted on a weekly basis.
The following graph displays 1-hour averaged noise levels measured in
decibels (dbA).
