Rutherford GO Station

Pedestrian tunnel construction and parking re-location

Metrolinx is transforming the GO rail system to bring you faster, more frequent service. To start expanding the infrastructure at your station, we are installing a pedestrian tunnel under the track.

Seventy-six (76) parking spaces at the south end of the parking lot will be closed during construction. The reserved parking spaces will move within the lot and the accessible spaces will shift over slightly.

We are opening up 76 spots at 635 Westburne Rd., the former site of Kitchen & Bath Classics - just two lots down from the station. So don't worry, we'll still offer the same number of parking spots while we work.

Please follow the sidewalk north on Westburne to access the station. Signs will be posted along the route. For more details, please see the maps below.

Three accessible spaces are shifting slightly west. Carpool spaces are moving to the south. The shelter on the north end of the platform is being removed.

We know that construction is inconvenient, and we appreciate your patience as these changes will help bring increased service to your station.

What’s next at Rutherford GO?

Rutherford Station

Over the next few years, major improvements are coming to Rutherford GO. We’re working with our design team to ensure the new station meets your needs and those of the community.

This summer, construction will start on a pedestrian tunnel, which is the first phase of implementing two-way, all-day service to your station. We’ll need to build a way for you to connect to another platform and track – both necessary for increased service. Similar tunnels have already been installed at Maple and Aurora GO Stations. When we’re closer to working on the tunnel, and have more details, we’ll share those with you.

There are lots of changes to get excited about! Coming to your station and the community is:

  • a new second track and fully covered platform to accommodate two-way, all day service
  • better pedestrian and cyclist connectivity, including a pedestrian bridge over Rutherford Rd., and dedicated bike lanes on Rutherford
  • a 1,200 net new space parking garage connected to a new station building
  • an upgraded bus loop and kiss ‘n’ ride
  • an underpass to separate Rutherford Road from the tracks

We’re also working with the City to improve access in and out of the station, which we know has become challenging as ridership has grown over the last number of years. This transformation is expected to start in late 2018.

We’re excited for the changes planned for Rutherford GO and we hope you are too! We’ll continue to update this page with renderings, photos showing our progress and status updates. It’s just one of the ways we’ll keep you in the know about construction at Rutherford GO.
