GOing Back to
School?
The summer is over and class is about to start. Here is some important
information on how to get your GO Student ID and get back to school!
Full-time Canadian university and college students are eligible for GO Transit
student fares, and must always carry official GO Student ID while traveling to
show during random ticket checks. The GO Student ID card allows travel at a
discounted rate for the period of full-time study and must be renewed each new
school year.
For students registered for seven months or more in full-time classes, the
2009-10 cards are valid until October 31, 2010.
Visit the
Student ID
page for more information on how to apply for and obtain a GO Student ID.
When using GO
Student ID, 10-ride and monthly passes are the only ticket types that can be
used. Visit our
Ticket Types
page for additional information about fares.
Make your first day back an easy one - here’s an idea!
If you’re taking
a new route or taking the GO for the first time, why not test it out before your
first day? Check our
Schedules section to find out which route to take and what time you need to
take it.
We wish you a safe and successful year!
GO introduces new ticket and fine Dispute Resolution Program
Starting in fall, we are implementing a new program to make it easier for
passengers to resolve fare and parking related disputes. You will now be able to
deal directly with GO Transit when disputing a fine instead of with the
Provincial Courts.
This new program puts you first by providing a great alternative to the costly
and inconvenient formal court proceeding. The new Dispute Resolution Program
will reduce the length of time it takes to have a ticket heard and resolved in
an informal, impartial and fair process. For convenience and to streamline the
process, you may now dispute by telephone, email, online or in person.
This new program will also reduce the overall cost associated with ticket and
fine disputes. Dealing directly with staff at the Union Station office will save
you time, and will also make our Transit Safety Officers more available to serve
you better.
For more information, please read the
by-law outlining the program.
For questions directly related to this new program, please email
complianceservices@gotransit.com.
Bus Rapid
Transit Project Breaks Ground in Mississauga
Prime Minister
Stephen Harper, Ontario Minister of Government Services Harinder Takhar,
Mississauga Mayor Hazel McCallion, and Metrolinx President and CEO Rob Prichard
participated in a groundbreaking ceremony today to mark the start of
construction of the Mississauga Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridor.
This $259
million project, which is expected to be completed in spring 2013, involves
constructing an 11-kilometre east-west busway
across the City of Mississauga between Winston Churchill Boulevard and Renforth
Drive in the City of Toronto.
A
total of 11 new stations with related commuter facilities will also be
constructed along the route.
Both GO Transit and Mississauga Transit buses
will use the busway to provide enhanced east-west services.
The project had been identified as one of
the Top 15 priority projects in the Metrolinx Regional Transportation Plan,
The
Big Move.
“We are pleased
to work with our government partners to improve public transit in Peel Region,”
said Gary McNeil, Executive Vice-President of Metrolinx and Managing Director of
GO Transit. “Joint projects such as this will help provide an integrated
transportation network to all of our customers.”
For more information on the
project, please refer to the City of Mississauga’s
BRT project website.

Congratulations to Cliff P. from Hamilton who has won a special GO annual pass
in the Cascades Green Transport Contest sponsored by the Canadian Urban Transit
Association.
