Phase One of Construction Began Monday, January 11, 2010
Phase one of construction on the new Union Station train shed roof
has been underway since January 2010. The first construction zone, which
includes train platforms 24 and 25, is closed to the public to ensure a
safe and contained worksite. The immediate impacts of this work for
passengers will be that trains arriving at Union Station that had opened
their doors to both platforms 25 and 26 will now only open to platform
26. You will see construction barriers and signage at all entrances to
platforms 24 and 25. Please ensure you check Union Station's trip
departure boards before going to your platform.
We expect this phase of construction to continue through the summer
of 2011. Once this phase is completed, the closed tracks and platforms
will reopen and the first section of the new glass atrium will be in
place. Refurbished access points to the platforms will improve
convenience and your traveling experience. All electrical, mechanical,
and communications systems will also be replaced.
Each phase of construction will bring us closer to a fully modernized
environment for our train passengers at Union Station. Over the next
five years, GO will work together with the City of Toronto to ensure
passenger services are maintained throughout every stage of Union
Station's Revitalization.
