How GO Fares Work with PRESTO

GO Transit fares are calculated based on the distance travelled. Most GO customers pay a base fare of $3.70 when they tap on a PRESTO machine with either a PRESTO card or credit card, including a credit card on your phone or watch . When you tap on with a PRESTO card, PRESTO will recognize your fare type (adult, youth, post-secondary student or senior) and apply loyalty discounts as applicable. When you tap off at the end of your trip, PRESTO will deduct the remaining amount of your fare based on the distance travelled.

You need to make sure that you have enough funds on your PRESTO card when you tap off to cover the total cost of your trip.

If your card has been added to a PRESTO Account, you can go into a negative balance to pay for one trip as long as you have the minimum base fare on your card.

If you pay your GO adult fare with a PRESTO card, credit card or credit card on your phone or watch, you will also receive automatic fare discounts of 15% or more based upon the number of trips you take within a calendar month.

Always remember to tap off with your PRESTO card (if you don’t have a default trip set), credit card or credit card on your phone or watch at the end of your trip to ensure you’re charged the correct fare. If you forget to tap off, the fare to the last stop on the train line or bus route will be charged to your credit card, or deducted from your PRESTO card and with your fare type and any applicable loyalty discounts applied.

If you are taking a trip for which you have a default trip set on your PRESTO card, the entire fare will be charged to your card when you tap on.
