Station and parking lot impacts for Ontario Honda Dealers Indy at Markham


As event preparations continue at Unionville GO for the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy at Markham, you can expect incremental changes to parking, station access and bus service that will increase leading to a temporary full closure on Aug. 12.

The temporary full closure will include:

  • No parking lot access.
  • No Pick-Up, Drop-Off access.
  • No access to the bus loop or bus services at the station.
  • Significant changes to pedestrian routing to the platforms, station, and street access.

The closure will continue until shortly after the event to account for takedown of Markham Indy materials.

GO train service to and from the station will continue throughout the construction, and during and after the event.

Current impacts include:

  • Approximately 413 parking spaces, including accessible parking spaces, are closed in the main parking lot and are unavailable.
  • Roadways surrounding Unionville GO are temporarily reduced between 21:00 and 06:00 until Aug. 8.
  • Approximately 28 parking spaces are closed in the P3 parking lot, and 100 spaces are closed in the P4 parking lot as construction of new walkways for the event is underway.
  • Please follow all directional signage and use caution when moving through construction areas.
  • Dates of work are subject to change due to unforeseen circumstances and weather conditions.

Construction of event infrastructure for Markham Indy continues, changing how you access and park at Unionville GO.

  • Unionville GO remains open, and train service will continue to run throughout event preparations.
  • Parking availability reductions, temporary fencing and increased construction activity throughout the station as event infrastructure is installed.

Getting to and from Unionville GO will be significantly more challenging between Aug. 9 and 17 due to road closures and significant access restrictions. Station staff will be onsite for wayfinding assistance.

Parking at the station will also be very limited and only available on a first come first serve basis. 

Please use an alternative Stouffville line station or arrange alternative travel options during this period.

Beginning Sunday, Aug. 9, parking availability at Unionville GO will be further reduced as racetrack and pit lane setup activities begin.

  • Parking lots 1 and 2 will be fully unavailable to customers as the construction of event infrastructure progresses for the Markham Indy.
  • Customers who regularly use Unionville GO should plan ahead and allow extra travel time when travelling to and from the station.
  • Due to reduced parking availability, customers may wish to consider alternative travel options such as carpooling or ride sharing during this period.

Beginning Wednesday, Aug. 12, at 18:30, there will be significant impacts to all station access:

  • All customer parking areas at Unionville GO will be closed, including parking lots 1, 2, 3 and 4.
  • Passenger pick-up and drop-off access will be unavailable.
  • Getting to and from Unionville GO will be significantly more challenging between Aug. 12 and 14 due to road closures and significant access restrictions. You may wish to consider using an alternative Stouffville line station during this period:
  • Customers with accessibility needs should be aware that access to Unionville GO will be significantly different than normal beginning Aug. 12.

**Please carefully consider your travel options. If you choose to travel from another station on the Stouffville line, visit gotransit.com to check schedules and departure times.

From Aug. 12 to 17, to accommodate planned road and station closures, GO Transit will temporarily relocate the bus loop at Unionville GO.

  • Customers travelling through GO bus services should consider alternative stations during this period.
    • Route 71 customers: You can connect to route 71 buses at Centennial or Mount Joy GO. The GO bus stops at Centennial GO are located at street level on Bullock Drive, near the community center.
    • Routes 52 and 56 customers:
      • If you’re travelling eastbound toward Durham College Oshawa GO, please consider using the Cornell Transit Terminal.
      • If you’re travelling westbound, towards Oakville GO, please consider using Richmond Hill Centre or Highway 407 Bus Terminal.
      • Be advised there is no free parking available at either of these terminals.
    • Route 40 customers: You can connect to route 40 buses at Richmond Hill Centre, near Langstaff GO.
    • Route 70 customers: You can connect to route 70 buses at Mount Joy GO.
  • A temporary GO bus stop will be located at the intersection of Birchmount Road and Enterprise Boulevard, approximately a 30- minute walk from Unionville GO.
  • Routes 40, 52, 56, 70 and 71 will serve the temporary bus stop on weekdays.
  • Routes 40, 52 and 71 will serve the temporary bus stop on weekends.
  • Bus service frequencies will remain unchanged and continue operating on schedule.
