The Royal Botanical Gardens spans 1,100 hectares of nature reserve, between Burlington and Hamilton. You and the family will love the beauty of the gardens and trails in the fall, with autumn colours surrounding your every step. There are a series of fall events to take part in as well, including Garden Movie Night and the Great Pumpkin Trail in late-October. Feeling even more adventurous? Why not try out RBG's 27km of hiking trails where you can really see the splendour of the fall colours.

Get There With GO: Take the Lakeshore West Line to Burlington GO Station. From there you cna connect with Burlington Transit Route 1 to the RBG Centre. Alternatively, if you're a fan of biking, you can take Lakeshore West Line to Aldershot GO Station, and from there it's a 4 km bike ride to RBG Centre.

Barrie Fall Activities

Chappell Farms in Barrie

There are so many things to do in Barrie this fall! Take the GO train from Toronto to Barrie for a perfect autumn outing. Dunlop St. in downtown Barrie is closed to cars and open to pedestrians on Saturdays for Open Air Dunlop. Bring the kids for free family activities, art, yoga, and circus performances! When the autumn leaves are out, the bike trails and hiking paths are even more beautiful. If you’re looking for live performances, you’re in luck! Barrie’s Five Points Theatre is located right in downtown Barrie and you can enjoy a relaxing walk along the waterfront on your way there. Chappell Farms, just a bike ride or rideshare away from Allandale Waterfront GO Station, is open for their Fall Festival. There are all kinds of activities including visiting animals, corn maze, tricycle tracks and pumpkin picking!

Get There With GO: Take the Barrie GO Train Line to Allandale Waterfront GO Station, and from there you can walk, bike, rideshare or transfer to Barrie Transit to get to all the Barrie activities.

Ripley’s Aquarium

You’ll feel like you’re underwater as the moving sidewalk takes you through Dangerous Lagoon and sharks, sea turtles, sawfish, and more swim over and around the tunnel. In other areas of the aquarium, you’ll encounter jellyfish, rays, and so many other sea creatures - including some that you can touch! Kids will love playing in the Discovery Centre, where they can go down a shark slide, explore a submarine, and climb a rock wall!

Get There With GO: Travel by GO bus or train to Union Station. Use the Skywalk and it’s a quick 10 minute walk to the aquarium.

Butterfly Conservatory in Niagara Falls

You’ll feel like you’re stepping into a magical garden when you visit the Niagara Butterfly Conservatory, where over 2000 butterflies flutter around the tropical plants and waterfalls. Tip - if your kids are hoping that butterflies will land on them, dress them in brightly coloured clothing! Avoid bright colours for kids who would prefer to watch the butterflies from a distance. At the Emergence Window, you’ll see the butterfly life cycle in action - a great way to incorporate a bit of educational fun into your kids’ summer!
